This week

This week in pop culture I watched the Cleveland Browns win it's second football game in a row. This is a very rare thing to happen for the Browns. They defeated the Oakland Raiders which was exciting too because I am tired if the Browns losing all the time. It's nice to see some winning happening. I just hope they keep it up.

Pop Culture

This weekend was one of my FAVORITE weekends of all time.  My football teams did amazong both college and pro.  THE Ohio State University beat that team up north (Michigan). Plus also the Cleveland Browns beat the Steelers.  Plus Notre Dame won and is going to the BCS championship which is nice since my uncle is a professor there.

Pop Cultre

So president Obama got re-elected.  I will say that I am not happy about this set up at all.  I feel like President Obama is trying to take away my rights as an American citizen and give all the power to the government.  For when people have to do less work to get more they are happy.  That is what is happening right now.  With the free cell phones for one thing.  It is not a necessity to have a cell phone.  That is a privilege that you work hard for to have.  One lady even said that she voted for Obama because she would get more free stuff.  She already has 30 Obama phones. But as long as whoever is in office and gives the people free stuff they will stay in office.  And that is what is wrong with this country.  People this is your country, a country of the people not a country of a government.

Topic November 13th

I dont really have an organizing system when I write papers.  I usually just wing it and turn in my papers.  I think though this time I should actually try to be organized and make a plan of action.

Pop culture

This past week for pop culture I went and did my handgun carry permit class.  This isn't the biggest pop culture reference out there but for the gun community its a very popular thing to talk about.  It was a lot of fun.  As well as very informative.

This week in pop culture

This week was fall break so everyone went on there little trips/home.  I went to Kentucky to visit and old friend from when I went to WKU (go tops).  The main thing that we talked about was bug out bags and safe houses.  For if the economy crashed even more or the government collapsed what we would do, go, and bring.  This is actually a really popular topic with the economy on edge right now and the election up the country is at a very unstable time right now.  It has to be handled with care and not rushed right now.  Because one wrong move and the whole country could be in chaos.

Citations

I HATE CITATIONS!!!!! Mainly the works cited page.  It is pointless to have to give all that extra crap to tell someone where you got the information.  All you need is the title and the author.  I do not think anyone really cares what company printed the book.  I am mainly familiar with MLA but in seminary school we had a professor want Harvard.  The good thing though is that I found a website to help me with it all so its not so bad anymore.

Weekly Post

This week I watched the second episode of the final season of How I Met Your Mother.  I love this show as do all my friends.  This episode was really good because it dealt with Barney and his fiancee Quinn relationship.  For at the end of season 7 you learn that Barney actually marries Robin on of the members of the group.  So in this episode you learn how Quinn and Barney break up.  They break up over finding out that neither of them trust each other at all.  There is a lot more to say but it is hard to explain with out you watching all the previous seasons. I highly recommend that you watch this show.

THE AWESOMENESS

This week for my pop culture activity was the WARRIOR DASH!!! It was completely awesomeness. The event was a 3.5 mile race with obstacles in it like crawling under barbed wire (which my back caught ahold of) and jumping over fire. This event is the worlds largest running event. This is because it is offered all over the world.  It was really cool being there seeing how people act when everyone is there to have fun and craw through the mud. I would recommend that anyone should go do this. I hadn't  worked out for this at all.

Skills

The main skills that I have gotten this semester is just getting back into the swing of things. Since I took some time off from school it is hard to get back into it

This week pop culture

This week the iPhone 5 was released. This apparently is a big deal. I will say that I have read about the iPhone 5 but I'm not going to go buy it right off the bat. I don't understand how people go stand in line for a new phone. which is going to be obsolete in a few months when another phone coms out.  I will say that I have an iPhone 4s which works perfectly fine.  Some people say that they got it for the better programing called IOS6. Well i was able to upgrade my phone for free to IOS6. So I just don't understand the camping out for a phone. If someone could tell me people do this please do.

Pop culture 3

This week I watched and read about the embassy attacks. I am more mad about the fact how Obama is handling it. They invaded American land. That is an act of war. But instead he says that America is sorry for the video. We're not sorry. That's the freedom of speech right there. What we should say is that we're sorry for the bomb about to hit you in the face. They want a war they can have it.

9/11 Article

I agree with the writer completely. I need to start to do this more often. Just sit down and write whatever is on my mind for the topic. then read over it and figure out what works then keep making that draft less shitty.

Prepping for class... or the lack of

How do I usually prepare for class.  That all depends on how I am feeling honestly.  After going to class during the day and then going to work right after until about midnight.  I usually don't feel up to doing all my school work.  Usually I will skim over the readings just to try to get a good idea of what the reading is about.  It is a bad habit that I need to kick and make myself start actually reading rather then going to bed.  As for the class contribution since all I did was skim over the assignment I will only contribute if it is something that I am one hundred percent sure that it was something I read.  I have noticed that when I actually do read the assignment and contribute to class it helps me with my classwork/homework because it is helping me to pull stuff out of the readings rather then just read to say I read the school work.

Does tv really make us smarter?

In the article the written tells us that tv actually makes us smarter because the script in the show is much more complicated then older tv shows. I would have to agree with him that the shows are much more complicated then previous tv shows. I can unfortunately agree with both sides of this argument. The argument that it makes you smarter is a possibility but only if the person is aware of what they are learning. Otherwise it is just entertainment that will go in one ear and out the other.

Pop Culture Encounter

This week was the RNC.  Where Mitt Romney was selected as the republican candidate. I haven't seen his speech yet but I did watch Ann Romney's speech.  Hers was really interesting in that instead of talking about the economy or talking up her husband a lot. She talked about family values and love and how that is what is most important.  That that is what we need to concentrate on.

Reading Pop Culture/My Skill

A skill that I have learned over the past couple of years was how do drive any manual vehicle.  Via a motorcycle and car.  This is a skill that I believe that a lot of people don't know how to do both a car and motorcycle.  With both of these skills the only way to acquire the ability to do it is to practice.  For the car I had to learn thanks to my parents. They bought me a truck that was a stick shit and I had to go back to school at WKU that same night. So it was either learn how to drive or miss my fraternity meeting.  It wasn't to difficult. The hardest part is just getting a feel for the gas and the clutch. It is like that with any manual vehicle for they all have there own feel to them. But within a couple of hours anyone can learn how to drive a stick shit.  As for the motorcycle it was just for fun. I actually learned a little on my grandfathers bio but the majority of the information I learned was from the intro safety class that is offered.  This class is just like the driving classes one takes when they are 15-16 years old. Only difference is its half a day in the classroom and a day and a half out riding.  This wasn't to difficult at all. It helped a lot that I already knew how to drive a manual car so it made the transition much easier than someone who never drove a manual.

The best way these skills be applied to my writing is that it is hard to do at first but with plenty of practice and determination to get to the final product you can do anything. So I need to be able to keep chugging along and have an open mind to learn more about writing.

Intro

Hi my name is Ben Bedock. I am 23 years old and originally from Cleveland, OH.  I moved to TN about ten years ago to Franklin, TN.

My pop culture interest

What do I like to read?  The main thing that I like to read now a days is the newspaper. Mainly on my IPhone. Since it is free and convenient, plus it is good to keep up with current events happening locally, nationally, and internationally. I find it very interesting as to what is going on in the rest of the world.

What do I like to watch? I honestly like to watch How I Met Your Mother, Bones, and sports (primarily hockey).  I like watching theses things because it is nice to be able to turn off the brain from everyday things happening and relax.  Hockey is my main thing I like to watch on TV. I find it much more interesting then any other sport for it is fast pace and a lot of physical contact.

What do I like to listen to? I like to listen to any kind of music. I will listen to classical music on second the switch it to metal then switch it again to country. I am open to listening to all kinds of genres.

My history with research and argument is very bad. We don't get along very well together. I have had to do it before for my other classes in the past. But never really succeeded in the process of research and argument on the written side of things. Presentations I am much better at.
